Other requirements

• Shipments must be able to withstand a minimum of 48 hours transit time within the U.S. or 72 hours (international) regardless of the service level.
• Any article susceptible to damage by ordinary handling must be adequately protected by proper packaging and must be marked.
• Each piece of a shipment must be legibly and durably marked with the name and address of the shipper and consignee.
• Liquids, fragile or perishable articles must not be enclosed in the same package as wearing apparel.
• Pieces with a floor bearing weight in excess of that which can be loaded on available aircraft must be provided with a suitable skid or base to distribute the weight. The weight of the skid or base will be included in the weight of the shipment.
• Cut flowers and nursery stock must be in boxes with the total cubic measurement on the outside of the package.
• Dry ice shipments must have the net weight on the outside of the package and must allow carbon dioxide and solid gas to vent to prevent a dangerous build of pressure.
• Activated readings from shock/tilt devices are not recognized as valid.

Requirements

• All shipments are subject to governing domestic or international rules and classifications as stated in the US Airways Cargo Rules, available at usairwayscargo.com
• Dry Ice is classified as “Dangerous Goods” for air transport and is subject to applicable regulations. Shipper must comply with all applicable regulations.
• Shipments must be tendered to, and picked up from, US Airways cargo facilities.
• Transit time begins at the time of tender in the origin city and ends at the time the shipment arrives at the destination station.
• Shipments must be packaged to withstand 48 hours (within the U.S.) or 72 hours (international) transit time.
• Must show contact name and telephone number; contact must be accessible 24/7.
• Must have clear delivery instructions/arrangements on the air waybill.
• Shipments that require refrigeration should use gel packs; wet ice is forbidden unless shipments contain human organs or human eyes. Wet ice used in these shipments must be in leak-proof containers. Packaging must be resistant to external punctures; bands must not cut containers.

Acceptance / restrictions

• Shipments must be tendered to, and picked up from, US Airways cargo facilities.
• Transit time begins at the time of tender in the origin city and ends at the time the shipment arrives at the destination station.
• US Airways cannot guarantee the availability of cooling or freezing facilities at origin, destination or points en route.
• US Airways assumes no responsibility for spoilage due to delay, thawing or freezing unless it is the result of US Airways’ own negligence.
• US Airways assumes no responsibility for damage caused by an air temperature that is less than 32 degrees F or above 86 degrees F at origin, destination or any point en route.
• US Airways will not be liable for any loss or damage of perishable goods tendered on Thursday or Friday to a destination whose cargo facility is closed all or part of the weekend.
• Seafood (regardless of the outer packaging) must not weigh more than 150 pounds per box.
• Pre-booking is required for Perishable shipments.

Dry ice

• Shipments cannot exceed 5.5lbs/2.5 kilos per package.
• Shipments must have the net weight of solid dry ice labeled on the outside of the package.
• Packaging must allow for venting of the carbon dioxide to prevent a dangerous build of pressure.

Lithium batteries

Lithium batteries are the primary source of power for cell phones, laptops and many other kinds of electronics. There are different types and classes of lithium batteries and US Airways accepts certain types. Proper documentation and handling labels are required at the time of tender.

US Airways accepts primary lithium metal (non-rechargeable) or lithium ion (rechargeable) batteries contained in or packed with equipment when the shipment:

• Is not classified as a 'Class 9 Dangerous Good.'
• Uses part 1 of packing instructions 965, 966, 967, 969 or 970.
• Is labeled with the 'lithium battery' handling label.
• Includes contact information and documentation stating that the shipment contains lithium metal batteries, the package must be handled with care, that a flammability hazard exists if the package is damaged and that special procedures should be followed if the package is damaged (to include inspection and repacking if necessary).

Lithium batteries not accepted:

• Lithium metal batteries (non-rechargeable) packaged individually.
• Damaged packages that contain lithium ion or lithium metal batteries.
• Shipments marked ‘cargo aircraft only,’ ‘Primary lithium batteries – forbidden for transport aboard passenger aircraft’ or ‘’Lithium metal batteries – forbidden for transport aboard passenger aircraft.’
• Lithium batteries classified as ‘class 9 – miscellaneous dangerous goods,’ which include UN 3090, lithium metal batteries, UN 3480, lithium ion batteries, UN 3091, lithium metal batteries contained in equipment, UN 3091, lithium metal batteries packed with equipment, UN 3481, lithium ion batteries contained in equipment and UN 3481, lithium ion batteries packed with equipment.

US Airways cannot accept certain shipments:

• Live warm blooded animals
• Articles of extraordinary value
• Venomous cold-blooded animals/reptiles
• Dangerous goods as defined by IATA or the DOT (with the exception of dry ice)
• Shipments within the U.S. which exceed $25,000 declared value
• International shipments which exceed $100,000 declared value
• Onyx tables and/or onyx handicrafts
• Shipments from 'unknown shippers' that weigh less than 16 ounces
• Bank consignments
• Pieces that exceed 350 pounds on a narrow body aircraft (excludes human remains)

US Airways has increased security in order to comply with all TSA cargo security requirements.

• US Airways will accept cargo from Known Shippers and Indirect Air Carriers that are operating with a TSA-approved security program and have an US Airways Cargo account.
• All shipments will be subject to inspection.
• A complete and accurate description of the commodity must be documented on the air waybill.
• Shippers must have a valid form of government-issued photo identification.

To book, you must be a TSA known shipper:

• Shipments with dry ice are subject to our dry ice requirements.
