Frequently Asked Questions: US Airways Fare Class Realignment

Why is US Airways changing the fare class structure?
We’re changing both the US Airways and America West fare classes so that the fare class hierarchy will be consistent across both operating carriers. This is a major step as we prepare to combine US Airways and America West’s reservations systems in 2007. This change will also align our fare classes with our Star Alliance partner carriers.

What is actually changing?
We are adding additional fare classes to our current hierarchy. Upon completion, both US and HP fare class hierarchies will match and be aligned with our Star Alliance partners.

Will the flight numbers change?
We have begun the process and have renumbered US Airways and America West flights so that each flight on both operating carriers has a unique number. This would have already come over to your agency as a schedule change via a teletype message. This process will be completed by September 16, 2006.

How will the changes be delivered to travel agents?
The change will be processed through the standard schedule change process in your GDS via a teletype message. Since the change will only affect the fare class there is no need for you to reaccommodate your client or reissue the ticket.

When will the changes happen?
The changes will begin to appear in your schedule change queues beginning September 1, 2006. We anticipate that the entire schedule change process for both US and HP flights will be complete by September 4, 2006.

What records will be affected by the change?
Any record with a travel date beginning September 20, 2006 that has a booking class change will be affected.

How will I know what records are affected by the fare class realignment?
You’ll receive a schedule change message via your GDS for each segment that changes. If more than one segment in a record is affected, you’ll receive multiple schedule changes per record just as you would in the normal schedule change process.

What do I need to do to ensure that my client’s trip goes as planned?
Simply accept the schedule change and cancel the old segments.

What are the entries to accept the schedule change and cancel old segments in my GDS?
The following entry is suggested for each GDS system:

  • Sabre - .HKALL
  • Worldspan – EW
  • Amadeus – ERK
  • Apollo - .1HK (for each TK segment) and .1XK (for each UN segment)

What will happen if I don’t accept the change and cancel the old segments?
If you don’t accept the schedule change and cancel all old segments, your clients will experience problems with:

  • Web check-in
  • Airport kiosk check-in
  • Automated First Class upgrades through our Dividend Miles program
  • Seat assignments

What happens to a reservation that has not been ticketed?
Schedule change messages will be sent for each segment whether ticketed or not. You should accept the schedule change, and the same fare should be available in the new class of service.

I ticket for a corporation who has a negotiated contract with US Airways. Will I need to do anything differently?
No, US Airways has adjusted all ATPCO fare filings to address the fare class changes. There is no action required on either the corporation or the agency’s part.

What will the new fare class structure look like?
