Pay for your checked bags online when you check in Beginning July 9, 2009, you can pay for your checked bags when you check in online and save a few. Customers who choose to pay for checked bags at the airport will be charged an additional $5 service fee (beginning July 9, 2009).
If you have more than 2 checked bags per person, you must check those at the airport. Also, if your bag is overweight or oversize, additional fees will apply.
Some passengers are exempt** from the first and second checked bag fee, but not any applicable weight fees: - All Dividend Miles Preferred members (Silver, Gold, Platinum and Chairman's Preferred)
- Passengers traveling to and from Europe, or to and from Asia
- Star Alliance Silver and Gold status members
- Unaccompanied minors (with US Airways unaccompanied minor paid assistance)
- Confirmed First Class and Envoy passengers at time of check-in
- Active U.S. military personnel with ID (first through third bag up to 100 lbs/45 kg each free of charge)
- If you purchased a ticket before July 9, 2008, the first bag fee won’t apply.
- Baggage fees and rules of the operating carrier apply on all flights operated by one of our codeshare partners.
Additional checked baggage allowance These items will be accepted in addition to the checked baggage allowance at no charge: - Required mobility assistive devices (e.g. wheelchairs, canes, or crutches) These items may also be carried onto the aircraft.
- Infant assistive device (stroller or carseat).
- Required medical supplies or equipment. These items may also be carried on to the aircraft, as long as they meet size and weight restrictions. If the medical supplies or equipment are included in a larger bag containing other non-essential items, that bag will not be considered a free item, and will be subject to normal baggage fees.
If you're paying 10% of the adult fare for an infant to fly on an international flight, you are allowed: - 1 checked bag with maximum total dimensions of 45 inches/114 cm and maximum weight of 50 pounds/23 kg
- 1 fully collapsible stroller or 1 child restraint device or car seat
*Fees listed are in USD and will be charged in the local equivalent currency. Some destinations outside of the continental U.S. have additional limitations on checked baggage at specific times of the year.
**No exemptions will be made for bags greater than 100 lbs/45 kg.
Oversized bags Each bag greater than 62 in/157 cm will be subject to a fee. Total dimensions for checked bags may not exceed 80 in/203 cm (length + width + height).

Baggage liability US Airways' liability for loss, delay or damage to checked baggage is limited to $3,300 per ticketed passenger for travel entirely within the U.S.
When US Airways has exercised the ordinary standard of care, it shall not be liable for damage to or damage caused by fragile articles, liquids, or perishables, nor for the loss of, damage to, or delay in: - antiques/heirlooms/collectibles

International baggage liability policy For international travel (including the domestic portions of international flights) to which the Montreal Convention applies, US Airways' liability for loss, delays, or damage to baggage is limited to approximately $1,500 per passenger for checked and unchecked baggage.
Local airport/government regulations state that any baggage over 70 pounds is not accepted for travel from: MAN, LGW, GLA, LIS, MXP, ARN, BRU, LHR, SNN, DUB.
Baggage embargo Customers who travel to the destinations below during the following periods will be allowed to check only two bags. Star Gold members are allowed to check up to 3 pieces within the current weight restrictions.
Excess, oversized, or overweight bags and all boxes are not permitted during these periods. Excess baggage embargo applies to all southbound flights only.
