Checked bags

Pay for your 1st and 2nd checked bags when you check in online or at the airport kiosk. All bag fees are non-refundable, per person and each way.

    Overweight/oversize rules still apply. Maximum weight is 23 kgs per bag and you can check a maximum of 9 bags.

      You're also allowed:

      • Required mobility assistive devices, such as wheelchairs, canes or crutches (to check or carry on)
      • Infant assistive devices (stroller or car seat)
      • Required medical supplies or equipment. These items may also be carried on to the aircraft, as long as they meet size and weight restrictions. If the medical supplies or equipment are included in a larger bag containing other non-essential items, that bag will not be considered a free item, and will be subject to normal baggage fees.

      Traveling with an infant in your lap?

      You're allowed:

      • One fully collapsible stroller or one child restraint device or car seat (no charge)
      • If you're traveling with an infant outside the U.S. or Canada, the infant is allowed one checked bag (max 62in/114 cm and 50lbs/23 kg) -- checked bag fees apply

      Stopping between flights for more than 24 hours

      If you stop between flights for more than 24 hours, you'll be charged for bags for each of your flights.

        Government taxes and fees may apply and will be added to the charge. Prices are listed in USD and will be collected in the local currency.

          Checking overweight or oversize bags?

          When you're trying to figure out if your bag is oversize, add the measurements for length, height and width together. The dimensions we list are length + height + width.

          Overweight/oversize fees are on top of our checked bag fees. Each piece of sports equipment is 200 USD

          Local airport/government regulations state that any baggage over 32 kg is not accepted for travel from:

          • Glasgow, UK (GLA)
          • Barcelona, Spain (BCN)
          • Madrid, Spain (MAD)
          • Lisbon, Portugal (LIS)
          • Brussels, Belgium (BRU)

          Baggage embargo

          There is a seasonal baggage embargo for 'southbound passengers' to the following cities: Guadalajara Mexico City Santo Domingo During the embargo, passengers are only allowed to check in two bags - no excess baggage. Also passengers are not allowed to check in boxes. Normal 1st and 2nd bag fees apply. Normal bag allowances for First Class and Dividend Miles Preferred passengers remain unchanged during the embargo. Non-rev passengers are allowed only carry-on and no checked bags.

            Baggage embargo dates

            • Easter week (Friday prior to Good Friday until the Wednesday after Easter)
            • June 20 - September 1
            • November 15 - January 13

            Carry-on baggage

            You're allowed on carry-on bag and one personal item. Personal items include a purse, briefcase or laptop bag.

            Size requirements

            • Up to 45in/115 cm (14 x 9 x 22 in or 36 + 23 + 56 cm)
            • Up to 40 lbs/18 kg

            Carry-on rules for US Airways Express

            Not sure if you're on a US Airways Express flight? Please check your confirmation receipt. If you're on a flight operated by Air Wisconsin, Colgan, Piedmont, PSA or Trans States, you're allowed to carry on 2 items.

            • 1 personal item (such as a purse or laptop) in the cabin and;
            • 1 small carry-on bag. Your carry-on bag will be tagged, placed in the cargo bin and returned plane-side or in the jetway when you arrive.

            International baggage liability policy

            For international travel (including the domestic portions of international flights) to which the Montreal Convention applies, US Airways' liability for loss, delays or damage to baggage is limited to approximately 1,807 USD per passenger for checked and unchecked baggage.

            Local airport/government regulations state that any baggage over 70 lbs is not accepted for travel from Manchester, UK (MAN), London Gatwick, UK (LGW), London Heathrow, UK (LHR), Glasgow, UK (GLA), Lisbon, Spain (LIS), Brussels, Belgium (BRU) and Dublin, Ireland (DUB)

              Liability for loss, delay or damage to checked baggage (for travel entirely within the U.S.) is limited to 3,300 USD per ticketed passenger. When US Airways has exercised the ordinary standard of care, it shall not be liable for damage to or damage caused by fragile articles, liquids, or pershisables, nor for the loss of, damage to, or delay in:

              • Antiques/heirlooms/collectibles
              • Artwork
              • Blueprints
              • Books, manuscripts, publications
              • Business samples, equipment, documents & irreplaceable items
              • Computer hardware, software, etc.
              • Currency
              • Electronics
              • Equipment
              • Keys
              • Lifesaving medication
              • Negotiable papers, securities, documents
              • Natural fur products
              • Optics
              • Photographic, cinematographic audio/video equipment
              • Precious metals and stones
