Community Relations principle

The US Airways Board of Directors believes good corporate citizenship is in the best interest of our company and helps ensure the airline's long-term viability. Through our community relations activities, we contribute to the economic and social well being of a range of stakeholders, including employees, shareholders, passengers and the communities in which we operate.

US Airways fulfills its commitment to corporate citizenship through corporate philanthropy (support of a broad range of nonprofit organizations, including arts and culture, health, human services, education, environment and civic), foundation giving and employees' involvement in their local communities through volunteerism and service on nonprofit boards.

US Airways contributes through three channels of giving: the Corporate Giving Program, the US Airways Community Foundation and the US Airways Education Foundation. Organizations may apply for funding in all categories should they meet the eligibility requirements.

Reading Is Fundamental

US Airways, the official airline of Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), is celebrating the wonder of reading with employees, passengers and readers nationwide through the Fly with US. Read with Kids.® campaign. As a dedicated supporter of children's literacy and a longstanding community partner, US Airways is proud to join with RIF to provide books and literacy services to children served by RIF programs throughout the country. The Do Crew, US Airways' employee volunteer corps, will partner with local RIF programs to distribute books and conduct reading rallies to help children foster a lifelong love of reading.

In addition, all readers are invited to participate in the "Read with Kids Challenge" to help children discover the joy of reading. By going online and tracking the time spent reading with children, participants can enter to win travel prizes from US Airways and help reach the five million minute reading goal. US Airways also encourages all participants to support RIF's mission by making a donation today. Donors will receive a special edition of the Off You Go, Maisy children's book and will be eligible to receive up to 5,000 Dividend Miles from US Airways.

Sweet Delights Take Flight

Started in 2004, Sweet Delights Take Flights was created to honor and recognize active military and veterans during the week of Veterans Day. Each year in the airline’s hubs and focus cities, the US Airways Do Crew delivers sweets to patients in veterans’ hospitals in appreciation for their distinguished service to our country.

Puppies In Flight

Puppies In Flight is a partnership between US Airways and Assistance Dogs International. US Airways employees volunteer their time and utilize travel benefits to transport and familiarize assistance dogs in training with aircraft and air travel in preparation for future flights with their disabled partners.

Employee volunteerism

US Airways employees are actively involved in making a difference in the community. Through the Do Crew, the airline’s volunteer corps, employees volunteered more than 20,000 hours with 150 nonprofit organizations in 2008.

Donate Miles

US Airways Miles of Hope program

Through the US Airways Miles of Hope program, the flying public may donate Dividend Miles to four national nonprofit organizations: the American Red Cross, Mercy Medical Airlift, Fisher House Foundation and Make-A-Wish Foundation. Donated miles are used to fulfill each organization's mission. More than 600,000,000 miles (12,000 roundtrips) have been donated to these nonprofit organizations since the Miles of Hope program began in 1998. Mileage donations are accepted in 1,000 mile increments.
