Creating a stronger airline for you
This continues to be an exciting time for our employees and customers. Through our merger with American Airlines, we’re now able to offer you convenient schedule options, access to more destinations around the globe and a modern fleet.
Since January, we’ve rolled out these enhanced benefits to you:
- The opportunity to earn and redeem miles on American or US Airways, with all eligible travel on either airline counting toward elite status qualification in the program of your choice
- Reciprocal benefits for elite status members when flying either airline, including First and Business Class check-in, complimentary checked bags and priority security and boarding
- More lounge access, with reciprocal club access for Admirals Club and US Airways Club members
- Easy access to the combined company's expanded network through our codeshare with American Airlines, which allows us to sell seats on each other's flights
- Joining the award-winning oneworld® alliance, offering more options across the Atlantic and an easier and more rewarding global travel experience to Europe and beyond
- The ability to easily stay connected while you fly with Monthly Traveler and Daily Wi-Fi passes, valid on both American and US Airways
Upgrades on American flights
Preferred members can upgrade on American Airlines flights within/ between the U.S. (including Hawaii) and Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Bermuda and Central America.
Upgrades are first come, first served. If an upgrade is available, you'll see the option to add it when you check in with American Airlines – on aa.com, at the kiosk or with an agent at the airport or Admirals Club. For the best chance of being upgraded, we recommend that you're the only passenger in your reservation.
Chairman’s Preferred members receive complimentary upgrades – as AAdvantage Executive Platinum members do today. And Platinum, Gold and Silver Preferred members can upgrade for $30 per 500 miles of travel – as AAdvantage Platinum and Gold members do today.
Loyalty program update
We plan to bring current Dividend Miles accounts into the AAdvantage program in 2015. That means we will combine your award mileage balances, your million mile balances and your elite-qualifying activity from both programs. In the meantime, continue to book travel and earn miles as you normally would. We will follow up with you when we begin the process of integrating accounts. Rest assured, your miles and elite status are safe as we work to combine the two programs.
Using your miles
As we work toward aligning our two loyalty programs, we're raising redemption levels for roundtrip travel on medium and high awards between the continental U.S. and Canada for travel booked on/after August 1, 2014. We're raising redemption levels for roundtrip travel on medium and high awards between the continental U.S. and Canada. We’re also raising the redemption levels for First Class awards on three-class service within and between the continental U.S. and Canada on oneworld® and partner flights.
When you fly on either airline, you're allowed 1 carry-on bag and 1 personal item.
- Your carry-on bag can be up to 45 inches (22 x 14 x 9 in.) or 115 centimeters (56 x 26 x 23 cm.)
- Your personal item needs to be smaller than your carry-on bag and must fit under the seat in front of you.
Instead of a carry-on bag, you can bring on a soft-sided garment bag up to 51 inches. In addition to a personal item and carry-on bag, you can also bring a diaper bag and duty free items on your flight.
We’re also excited to announce that all flights scheduled between New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport and Los Angeles and San Francisco are flying on our new A321 Transcontinental aircraft – delivering the only 3-class service coast-to-coast. And, we’re continuing to expand our global network with new service from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Loyalty and lounges
We’re giving our Dividend Miles members even more opportunities to make the most of their travel. While the Dividend Miles and AAdvantage programs will remain separate for now, you can earn and redeem miles for travel on both airlines. We plan to integrate current Dividend Miles accounts into the AAdvantage program in 2015.
US Airways Club members now enjoy access to more airport clubs and lounges around the globe with access to American’s Admirals Club. And, beginning July 2, 2014 club day passes can be used to visit any US Airways Club or Admirals Club lounge worldwide. A pass is $50 and includes access for up to three guests under 18.
We’re excited to elevate your travel experience by offering more choices through our expanded global network. Together, we’ll bring you fuel-efficient planes, new technology and a more comfortable experience.
Each airline will follow its current policies on standby travel, pets, preferred seating and some ticketing policies for some time.
To provide a more consistent customer experience when flying American Airlines and US Airways, we have also aligned select loyalty program and baggage policies including checked baggage fees and exemptions.

Through the oneworld alliance, the new American Airlines extends its network to nearly 1,000 destinations in more than 150 countries. US Airways has also joined American in our enhanced relationship with oneworld members British Airways, Finnair and Iberia. Together, we offer you more options across the Atlantic and an easier and more rewarding global travel experience to Europe and beyond.
More choices, more destinations
It’s even easier to seamlessly book flights on American through our codeshare agreement, which lets us sell seats on each other’s flights.
We now sell flights operated by American, so you can enjoy travel to:
- North America, South America and Europe through American’s hubs in Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, New York JFK, Chicago O’Hare and Miami
Some new travel options to look forward to in the coming months include:
- South America with service throughout Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela
- Asia with service to Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong
