Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

Robert Isom serves as executive vice president and chief operating officer for US Airways Group, Inc. and US Airways, its principal subsidiary company. Isom oversees all aspects of customer service, flight operations, maintenance, US Airways Express, cargo, safety and security for the airline. He is based at the airline’s headquarters in Tempe, Arizona.

Isom joined US Airways in 2007 and has led the carrier to industry leading reliability and efficiency. The carrier has been the best among the network carriers in on-time performance and baggage handling for the time period 2008 through 2012. In 2010, US Airways achieved a number one ranking in the annual Airline Quality Rating (AQR) report that measures airline reliability and service.

Isom and the US Airways maintenance team earned the prestigious maintenance, repair and overhaul MRO of the Year Award in 2012 by Aviation Week and Overhaul & Maintenance magazine for airline maintenance excellence. He spearheads the US Airways Green Team, a group charged with ensuring the company’s commitment to sustainable growth and environmental stewardship. Isom has guided US Airways to industry leading safety performance by being the first commercial airline to implement an FAA approved safety management system validated to ICAO standards.

Prior to joining US Airways, Isom served as chief restructuring officer for GMAC, LLC. Before that, he was senior vice president, ground operations and airport customer service for Northwest Airlines. Isom also served as vice president, international, and vice president, finance for Northwest Airlines.

Between 1995 and 2000, he was with the former America West Airlines and held executive rolls in revenue management, operations and finance. Isom started his career at The Procter & Gamble Company.

Isom holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan. He has served on the board of directors of Pinnacle Airlines, and a number of charitable boards such as the St. Mary’s Food Bank and Children’s Cancer Research Fund. Currently, Isom is on the board of directors of The Wings Club and the board of trustees of All Saints’ Episcopal Day School.
