Advance notice

If you have both severe hearing and vision impairments, you must notify US Airways 800-428-4322 (TTY 800-245-2966) at least 48 hours in advance and check in 1 hour before general check-in time.

If you do not meet the advance notice and check-in requirements, we will still make reasonable efforts to provide the accommodation if we can do so without delaying the flight.

Safety assistant

For safety reasons, a passenger with severe hearing and severe vision impairments must travel with a safety assistant if the passenger cannot establish some means of communication with US Airways personnel that will:

  • Permit transmission of the safety briefing required by FAA regulations or the safety regulations of a foreign carrier's government (for international codeshare flights)
  • Allow the passenger to assist in his or her own evacuation of the aircraft if there's an emergency

Travel without a safety assistant

If you have a severe hearing and vision impairment and wish to travel without a safety assistant, you must call US Airways at 800-428-4322 (TTY 800-245-2966) at least 48 hours before your scheduled departure to describe your situation. If you give us less than 48 hours’ notice, we'll do our best to accommodate you.

In these situations, you must travel with a safety assistant even if you wish to travel independently:

  • The means of communication that you have described to US Airways is not adequate to deliver the safety briefing required by FAA regulations and to enable you to assist in your own evacuation of the aircraft in the event of an emergency
  • You wish to establish communication by means of finger spelling, and US Airways does not have sufficient time to arrange for a flight crew member who can communicate using this method
